Partner Share
Outcomes Met: Grade 5 Science 5-2-12, Grade 5 Math 5.N.10.
The partner share strategy can be used in any content area subject. This strategy is a great way for students to practice their listening skills as well as their summarizing and speaking skills. Students get into pairs. One student shares what they have learned and the other student reports to the class what their partner shared. Roles can be reversed once one partner has shared their learning. For example, in science after students have finished reading the text or listening to a lesson, have students get into pairs. One student could share what they have learned about potentially harmful chemicals in the home, while the other one reports. Then they could switch roles and the other student could share what they have learned about being safe around harmful chemicals and the other partner would report on what their partner learned. 1. Have students pair up with a partner (or you could number them off, 1-2-1-2...). 2. Have each student pick which role they would like do; share learning, report learning. 3. Have the partner with the sharing role in each pair share what they have learned from the text or lesson. 4. Once the students have shared their learning, have each partner with the reporting role take a turn reporting to the class what their partners shared. 5. Have students switch roles. If one student had the sharing role, have them switch to the reporting role and vise versa for the other student. |
