Double-Entry Journal
Outcomes Met: Grade 5 Math 5.N.4, Grade 5 Science 5-1-14
The Double-Entry Journal can be used for any subject/course. After having read a piece of text or having taught a concept, in one column students write down an idea, quote or concept and then in the second column they proceed to respond to the idea or explain the concept. If students were to use this in math, in the first column they would write down an equation and then proceed to explain how they would solve the equation in the second column. If students would use this in a science class, in the first column they would record a main idea and then respond to that idea, making a connection between the text / video / or other nonfiction pieces and themselves. 1.During and/or after the reading of a text, video or lesson, display a blank copy of the Double-Entry Journal to demonstrate how to use this printout to make connections with the text, video or concept
